Answer
New to cPanel ? Well listed below are the various steps you'd need to take to set-up an email account:
- Log into your cPanel [http://www.yourwebsite.com/cpanel]
- Click on the mail icon or the corresponding "Email Accounts" text.
- You will notice a portion of the screen dedicated to the following text "Add a New Email Account"
- You will notice within this frame/screen a box to input an e-mail name with a drop down list i.e. (somename@any_domain_you_chose.com)
- Select the domain / sub-domain you want the e-mail assoicated with.
- Select a password for this account (This will be associated only with this account)
- Select the quota or leave at the default amount.
- Click on create
TIP :
If you are creating this account for POP/SMTP Access, i.e. you will be retrieving email to MS Outlook or any other email client, you might want to limit the mailbox quota;
such that you'd have more space for your web services.
In any case, a large amount is not required as you'll be downloading the emails, unless, you're intending to keep the mail stored on the server for reference.
After the e-mail account is created you can repeat steps 3 - 9
After you have all the accounts set up, you can check by utilising either one of the 3 methods listed below:
A) Use the Automatic Configuration given in cPanel
- Click the "Configure Mail Client" Function in your "Current Accounts" (right below the "Add a New Email Account Screen")
- Follow the steps highlighted by the Wizard
B) Outlook / Outlook Express
- Open Outlook express
- Create an account under tool -> Accounts -> new -> Mail
- Follow wizard, when asked for pop and SMTP they are mail.YOURDOMAN.com for both Incoming and Outgoing [*YOURDOMAIN* = whatever the MAIN domain is of the account]
- Username is the SAME as the e-mail address (i.e.
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
) the whole thing not just the name
- Click finish, if you get an SMTP error try using your ISP's SMTP server name
C) Webmail
- Using a Web Browser (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Mozilla, etc) go to http://www.yourdomain.com/webmail (the domain is your MAIN account not addon domains)
- A log-in box will pop up, the username is the e-mail account you want to check with the password for THAT e-mail account
- Choose 1 of 3 options for reading mail, they are all the same mail just a different look and feel
