Norton Internet Security, developed by Symantec Corporation, provides malware prevention and removal during a subscription period and uses signatures and heuristics to identify viruses. Other features include a software firewall, e-mail spam filtering and phishing protection.

Symantec distributes the product as a download, a box copy, and as OEM software. Norton Internet Security held a 61% market share in the US retail security suite category in the first half of 2007. In this study, competitors, in terms of market share, included security suites from CA, Trend Micro, and Kaspersky Lab.

Steps

  1. Open the  “Start” menu and find Norton Internet Security directory.
  2. Click “Uninstall Norton Internet Security” to remove the old version Norton Internet Security (NIS).
    Note : If you are provisioned with a CD it is unnecessary to proceed with the Uninstalllation, please continue to Step 4. However, this step will speed up the upgrade process.
  3. After you have finished uninstalling the old version of NIS from your computer; Restart Windows.
  4. Now insert the CD you have received and/or proceed with the installation of Norton Internet Security 2010 if you have a Download-able copy.
  5. Click “AGREE & INSTALL” button to continue the Installation.
  6. Norton Internet Security 2010 will than proceed with the Installation.
  7. Upon completion of the Installation Process, you will receive a notification as shown below.
  8. Type the activation key provisioned to activate NIS 2010.
  9. Norton Internet Security will than validate the key provisioned and inform you of the Expiry of the Key provisioned.
  10. It is recommended that you follow through the steps provisioned by Norton Internet Security 2010, to check for Updates for NIS and Virus Definitions. Afterwhich a Full Scan is recommended.
